Non consensual coercive control: a new framework for abuse assessment in BDSM dynamics

How can helping professionals, intimate partner violence organizations, hotlines, advocates, et cetera, effectively determine whether abuse is present in BDSM dynamics? I want to propose an Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) conceptual framework which combines Coercive control models of IPV and the robust discourse within BDSM communities and emerging scholarship on consent. I am calling this tentative new framework non-consensual coercive control. In this talk, I will discuss this tentative new model, which I am in the process of developing as part of my PhD research. I will share not only where I am in my research, but the practical implications of this model for clinicians, educators, activists, and anyone who works with survivors of partner violence.
