Change is inevitable. Leather culture is not somehow magically immune to it. Every generation shapes the subcultures they encounter in large and small ways to suit their generational norms. In response, older generations whine and complain about how traditions are being destroyed and this isn’t (fill in your favorite subculture here). Neither group is entirely wrong and neither is entirely right.
In the face of these opposing forces, how do we pass down the best traditions of Leather – and let go of the bad ones – while making space for those whose expression of Leather doesn’t match our own? As a subculture, Leather is shrinking. What can we do to make Leather appealing to newcomers without losing the soul of what it is that we do?
